Historical definition of DRONTE s. m.
est un oiseau Indien dont les Anciens n'ont point parlé, qui a de petites ailes ; & bien loin de pouvoir voler, à peine peut-il marcher, tant il est gras. Les Hollandois l'appellent dod-eers. Voyez en la figure dans le Recueil de Thevenot au Voyage de Bontekoe.
