Historical definition of HAST s. m.
Vieux mot qui signifioit autrefois, Toute sorte d'arme offensive qui avoit un long bois ou manche. Les piques, les halebardes, pertuisanes, javelines, sont armes d'hast. Ce mot vient du Latin hasta. En quelques Provinces on appelle une broche une haste ; & on appelle encore contrehastiers, les chenets qui portent les broches.
