Historical definition of SUPPURATIF, IVE adject.
Qui fait suppurer. Onguent suppuratif, drogues suppuratives. Les suppuratifs sont chauds & humides, qui en augmentant la chaleur de la partie, font resoudre la mauvaise humeur en bouë & pus, comme les mauves, guimauves, racines de lis, &c. On disoit autrefois suppuratoire.
